On January 26th, 2009, Sims’ Director of Credit Analysis, Dick Larkin, gave a presentation in Boca Raton to current and prospective clients on things you need to know to Navigate the New Municipal Bond Market. Major topics included changes and outlook for the bond rating agency industry, a recap of how Bond Insurance has fallen out of favor, and the implication of these and other developments on how they have affected municipal bond prices. Other topics included the historical safety of municipal bonds against default, and where to look for the best values in today’s distressed municipal bond market. Finally, Mr. Larkin ended with some thoughts about how a Sims tax free fixed income bond strategy could help repair the damage done to investor portfolios as a result of the credit crisis and stock market crash of 2008.
